Summer Camp Wraps Up Another Memorable Season
Another incredible summer has come to a close, where campers spent their days making new friends and building lasting connections with our amazing therapy horses.
Throughout the summer, students experienced a variety of hands-on activities designed to teach horsemanship while making learning fun and engaging. A favorite camper activity was the horse anatomy lesson, where students selected a random horse body part from a bin and painted it directly onto one of the horse. Campers used non-toxic, water-based paint specially made for animals. With the help of an anatomy chart as a guide, campers learned the names and locations of each body part in a creative, interactive way.
Campers also learned essential horse care skills: how to thoroughly groom a horse, how to properly saddle a horse, and the purpose of different tack, including the bit and bridle. Another highlight was bath day, when campers worked together to give the horses a refreshing wash. This fun, unmounted activity gave students another opportunity to bond with the horses while learning about their daily care and wellbeing.
Of course, no day at Horses with Hope would be complete without time in the saddle. Every camper enjoyed daily riding lessons tailored to their experience and abilities, helping them develop riding skills, confidence, and trust with their equine partners. When they weren't with the horses, campers stayed busy with arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, horse-themed Jeopardy games, and other engaging activities.
As another successful camp season comes to an end, we're grateful to our campers, families, volunteers, and instructors who made this summer so special. Thank you for helping create a season filled with learning, laughter, friendship, and unforgettable moments with our horses.
