Animal Assisted Activities

Small Animals, Big Smiles at Gilfillan Farm

The pastures of Gilfillan Farm are livelier than ever! In 2025, our Horses with Hope Small Animal Program welcomed Pepper, Pompom, and Antoinette—three sweet Dorset sheep. They were soon joined by our Nigerian dwarf goats, Chocolate, Chip, and Oreo. Together, this charming crew has some very important work to do right here on the farm.

What are Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA)?

At Gilfillan Farm, AAA sessions are led by specially trained professionals, paraprofessionals, or volunteers working in close partnership with our animals to create meaningful breakthroughs. Connecting with our small animals offers a wide range of physical, social, and emotional advantages, including:

  • Communication: Improving verbal and non-verbal skills.

  • Confidence: Boosting self-esteem through animal interaction.

  • Connection: Encouraging new social bonds and reducing isolation.

  • Well-being: Elevating mood, providing comfort, and offering loyal companionship.

Ready to meet the herd? Daytime sessions at Gilfillan Farm are currently available for groups of six or more.
