Meet the Herd: Rex
Strength + Style
Rex is the undeniable leader of the herd. As the self-appointed "herd boss," Rex takes his job seriously, ensuring his stablemates stay in line and behave like true gentlemen.
Rex is part Haflinger, a lineage that gives him his signature strength and hearty build. This heritage, combined with his natural athleticism, makes him exceptionally agile in the arena. He is well aware of his good looks, often receiving compliments on his flowing mane, thick tail, and the striking white markings on his face.
A Patient Teacher
In the lesson program, Rex is a model of patience and care. He is particularly attentive to riders who are still finding their balance, standing perfectly still during the mounting process to ensure everyone is safe and secure before he takes a single step. His affection for participants and volunteers is well-known—he often offers "horse hugs" by gently wrapping his head around his human friends.
A Playful Personality
Despite his leadership role and professional demeanor, Rex has a legendary ornery streak that keeps everyone on their toes.
He’s a Prankster! He has been known to snatche a lead rope or a stray glove just to toss it around for fun (even if his trainer doesn't find the game quite as amusing on a cold morning).
He’s a Mud Lover! Rex has a particular talent for timing; he famously celebrated a thorough grooming session by immediately finding the deepest mud hole for a satisfying roll.
While his coat may not always stay shiny for long, his personality certainly does. Rex is a foundational part of the team, balancing his protective nature with a sense of humor that makes him a favorite among riders and volunteers alike.
