Meet the Herd: Rocky
An EAL Leader
Rocky, a striking Haflinger, is a member of the Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) herd at Brush Run Farm. Known for the sturdy build and gentle disposition characteristic of his breed, Rocky is an integral part of the farm’s educational programming, helping participants navigate a unique journey of self-discovery and skill-building.
In his role, Rocky facilitates ground-based activities designed to foster essential life skills. Because horses are naturally intuitive, Rocky serves as a mirror for human behavior, providing immediate and honest feedback to those working with him. Through these unmounted interactions, he assists individuals and groups in developing:
Leadership and Teamwork: Learning how to guide and collaborate with a powerful animal through trust rather than force.
Communication: Developing non-verbal awareness and clarity in intention.
Emotional Regulation: Building patience, confidence, and self-awareness in a supportive environment.
Rocky’s presence at Brush Run Farm highlights the core mission of EAL: providing a non-therapy, educational approach to personal and professional growth. Whether he is helping a student find their voice or helping a team refine their synergy, Rocky uses his steady Haflinger nature to make a lasting impact on everyone he meets.
