Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day
Every year on March 21, the world shines a spotlight on the incredible individuals in our communities who have Down syndrome. This is a global movement to advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome.
Why March 21?
The date itself is deeply symbolic. Down syndrome (also known as Trisomy 21) occurs when a person has three copies of the 21st chromosome, instead of the usual two.
The Math of 3/21: 3 copies of the 21st chromosome = The 21st day of the 3rd month.
By choosing this date, we celebrate the unique genetic arrangement that makes our loved ones who they are.

How You Can Get Involved
You don’t need a grand gesture to make an impact. Here are a few ways to show your support:
Rock Your Socks: Wear your brightest, loudest, most mismatched socks! Socks are shaped like chromosomes, and wearing eye-catching ones is a fun way to start a conversation about WDSD.
The 21 Challenge: Complete an activity involving the number 21—like 21 minutes of exercise or donating $21 to a local Down syndrome association.
Educate & Advocate: Share stories of self-advocates on social media using the hashtags #WorldDownSyndromeDay and #TogetherAgainstLoneliness.
Support Inclusive Businesses: Many entrepreneurs with Down syndrome run successful shops. Seek them out and support their work!
